::PASTOR JASON'S SERMON NOTES::

“DOES GOD KNOW YOU?”
SCRIPTURE TEXT: Matthew 7:21-29

Our scripture passage for today comes at the very end of the Sermon on the Mount.
• So when Jesus refers to people putting his words into action, he is referring to all of his
teachings in chapters 5-7 of Matthew.
• This also is what is referred to at the end of this passage when the crowd marvels at
Jesus’ teachings.

Jesus shows two consequences to not putting his words into action (one literal, one metaphorical).
• At the end of time on Judgment Day, doing only the following things will not get you
into heaven:
o Calling Jesus “Lord”
o Speaking God’s message
o Driving out demons
o Performing many miracles
• Jesus will say to those people, “I never knew you.”
o The concept of “knowing” is a very powerful concept in the Bible.
o For Jesus to say that he never knew someone is about as harsh a condemnation as
you can get.
• To drive the point home, Jesus tells a parable of a wise and a foolish builder.
o To truly be Jesus’ disciple, we must take his words and put them into action. We
must use his strong foundation of teachings and build on them by how we live.

Does the way you live your life show that you truly are a Christian?
• It does not matter what you say, no matter how eloquent or convincing,
if you do not
live a life of service, truth, and love.
